I guess we have to thank Quentin Tarantino for this mash up of Pulp Fiction-inspired background and symbols. The classic conversation between Jules and Vincent Vega where they discus the latter’s trip to Amsterdam is definitely where the name of this Megaways slot by iSoftBet comes from.
“Do you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese, in Paris?”
“They don’t call it a quarter pounder with cheese?”
“No, man. They got the metric system. They wouldn’t know what the fuck a quarter pounder is.”
“What do they call it?”
“They call it a Royale with Cheese.”
Pay a visit to Holy Cluck Diner where no one takes responsibility for heart stopping super size big wins. I’m guessing that the diner setting background is also inspired by Honey Bunny’s and Pumpkin’s botched robbery , albeit super cartoonish.
The steaks have never been higher. Yes, there are so many cheesy lines in this slot you’ll be amazed, but I love it. And there’s a lot more to love about this game and when you’ve read this review, I’m guessing you’ll agree with me. But first…
Those of you who follow my slot reviews will know that I’m a huge fan of Megaways and I’m thrilled that Big Time Gaming is licensing their trademarked game mechanics out to other slot providers like iSoftBet or Royale with Cheese wouldn’t even exist. At least not in its current format. Let’s take a quick peek at the pros and cons before we get to the real meat of this slot.
The Holy Cluck Diner looks like they probably imagined in the 50’s or 60’s what a diner would look like in the future. It’s a bit too cartoony for my taste, but then again, I tend to keep my focus on the reels and not so much at what goes on in the background. The graphics is very clean and crispy, just like bacon on a burger.
I would say that they missed out on a great opportunity here. iSoftBet should’ve gone with a motif more in line with the Jack Rabbit Slim’s restaurant where Mrs Mia Wallace and Vega won the twist competition in Pulp Fiction. Now THAT would have been awesome. However, some of the game symbols can be said to be taken from that restaurant. Like the burgers, fries and of course the unforgettable $5 dollar milkshake…
Slots with Megaways, like Royale with Cheese, pretty much play themselves. Each reel can display anything from 2 to 7 symbols and there are no payline to be concerned with. You just need 3 matching symbols in a row, starting from the left reel.
On top of the 4 reels in the middle you will find more symbols to help you make winning combinations. All symbols part of a win or wins are removed and new symbols fall down to create new combinations. If any symbols on top are used, they too vanish and the remaining symbols are all shifted to the left with new ones in tow.
There are a few symbols here to be on the lookout for. You want burgers, fries, hot dogs and shakes as they are the highest paying symbols. After that you want to watch for the bonus burger (3 triggers free spins), the wild symbol, and the Royale with Cheese mystery symbol which will transform into the same symbol across the reels. This can lead to massive payouts.
On any spin you can get a guaranteed Max Megaways. This will ensure that every reel now has 7 symbols which dramatically increases your chances of winning. It also helps towards racking up a lot of wins in a row on a single spin, which can also be used to trigger free spins. I will get to the free spins in just a few moments.
There are quite a few slots with Megaways where you will get a win multiplier between each cascading win, but not in Royale with Cheese. Not until you get to the free spins round. Okay, let’s just into it.
There are two ways of triggering free spins in Royale with Cheese Megaways. You can either hit 5 cascading wins in a row on a single spin, each cascading win after that will reward an extra free spin. Or you can hit 3 bonus burger symbols on any spin.
Before the bonus round starts you have to build your burger. This is super fun and can lead to burgers you’re really happy with in the game but would never want to eat in real life. The building starts with a bun, which is an automatic extra free spin.
Now, different condiments will award different things. Stack as many as you can until you hit the top bun which finishes your burger and starts your free spins according to what you picked. Most will either increase your starting win multiplier or give you more spins, but there are special ingredients you don’t want to miss to reach those heart stopping wins. By the way, there’s no vegan option:
The best burger you can build would start you off with 63 spins, 24x win multiplier, and every spin would be played with max Megaways and all 9s, 10s, Jacks, and Queens would be gone from the reels. I don’t even dare to dream what that would be like… probably heart stopping.
During free spins you will notice that each cascading win will increase the win multiplier to the left. According to iSoftBet, there’s no limit to how high this can grow. AND the burger bonus symbols are still available during free spins. If you hit 3 of them you will be awarded with an additional 3 free spins every time.
Pulp Fiction is one of the best movies ever made. It was easy for me to spot where the various bits and pieces of inspiration for Royale with Cheese Megaways comes from. It’s either that or I’m totally biased and should probably watch another Tarantino movie.
Nevertheless, Royale with Cheese is a great slot. Megaways makes it even better. For me, the best part is building the burger to see what the free spins bonus will look like. I once built a burger that was just bun, jalapenos, onion, onion rings, and mustard. I would never eat this in real life, but the 7 extra free spins was nothing to sneer at.
I think it’s safe to say that iSoftBet really knocked it out of the park with this one. Royale with Cheese was widely released on June 3, 2021 and it’s been kicking butt ever since. I for one has built a lot of burgers playing this slot. Not to the point where my blood type has become bbq sauce, but still.
